“Nothing changes unless if you do”
Resistance is everywhere, it’s not only in weight training. Whenever you are hesitant to do something, there is some form of resistance. One of the main reasons why there may be resistance is due to fear. These things happen to everybody to a certain degree and you have to break the cycle if you want to make a change. Always try to approach things with a “whats the worst thing that could happen” attitude.
Most of the time, it’s a mental or psychological blockage. The fact of the matter is that we can’t go on like this. Since its a new year and people want to start off fresh then I figured that you would be interested in trying the challenge below.
Get out of your comfort zone by doing something that scares you once per day.
When I write “scared” understand that there are different kinds of fear. Fear could be that it scares you to talk to a random person at the bus stop, reach out to someone, make a confession to a friend or even take some sort of risk. It doesn’t matter what it is, the important thing is that you try to get out of your comfort zone at least once per day. To what extent you want to get out of it is up to you, but you will know deep down if you got out of it or not. For example; I talked to a random person today for a few minutes. Even though it was awkward, I did it. If there’s resistance then we have to break the chain. If you start off small then that’s good too, you just want to work up to something every day.
What will be the rewards of doing this for a year?
You will be a lot stronger mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually if you do this everyday because you are putting yourself in uncomfortable situations. For example; In the weight room there will be weights that are too scary to approach. Sooner or later you will have to approach that weight and if you act now then those weights will eventually be part of your warm-up sets in the future. Once you approach them you will feel a lot better about yourself and you will go to bed knowing that you pushed yourself to do something that you didn’t want to do.
Conclusion:
The comfort zone is the danger zone. In most cases, being too comfortable will make you weaker. If you do one thing that scares you everyday for a year then that will be 365 challenges that you have overcome. Why stop there? This way of living will change your life.
